Israel: Israel Lebanon War
The second Lebanon war as it has been called broke out on July 12th after Hezbollah militants attacked Israel with rockets as a diversion for an anti tank missile attack on two armored Humvees patrolling the Israeli side of the border. Of the seven Israeli soldiers in the two Humvees, two were wounded, three were killed, and two were captured and taken to Lebanon. Five more were killed in a failed Israeli rescue attempt. Israel responded with massive air strikes and artillery fire on targets in Lebanon, which damaged Lebanese civilian infrastructure, including Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport. Schwarz rushed to the Israeli border and covered the ongoing war as it unfolded from the Israeli side for Time Magazine. His coverage included a picture taken in a funeral of an Israeli solider that was chosen by Time for pictures of the year collection 2006.
